Leather hardware

Listed below are many of the hardware items that go into the various products we make.  Click on the thumbnail to see a bigger view of the item.  Although the pics may show a different color, we use hardware with a silvery color that is actually nickel plated or chrome unless specifically stated in the item's description.  Generally, we will not substitute hardware of a different color or size, unless the item's description allows you to make a choice.

Roller buckle Roller buckles The size of a roller buckle is measured in how wide of a strap that can go through it.  One inch roller buckles are what we use most often, although we will use 3/4 inch to 2 1/2 inch double tongue buckles on various products.  The "roller" allows the strap to be pulled harder to tighten the item.  And, it also makes a wonderful jingling sound.
Double prong roller buckle Double prong roller buckles The size of a roller buckle is measured in how wide of a strap that can go through it.  One inch roller buckles are what we use most often, although we will use 3/4 inch to 2 1/2 inch double tongue buckles on various products.  The "roller" allows the strap to be pulled harder to tighten the item.  And, it also makes a wonderful jingling sound.
"O" ring "O" rings These rings are welded and are made for heavy duty use.  The size of an "O" ring is measured on the inner diameter.  Since the metal in an "O" ring is about 1/4 inch thick, the outer diameter is typically 1/2 inch larger.
"D" ring "D" rings These rings are welded and are made for heavy duty use.  The size of a "D" ring is measured along the straight side, on the inner diameter.  So, a 1 inch wide strap easily passes through a 1 inch "D" ring.
Double cap rapid rivets Double capped rivets There are various types of rivets, and, these are called rapid rivets or jiffy rivets.  This is a variation on the standard rapid rivet in that the "bottom" actually has a cap as well.  These rivets are good if the item will show both ends of the rivet and/or when the rivet bottom on the "hidden" side of the item might be pressed upon a sensitive part of the body.
Screw post Screw posts Screw posts are usually used instead of rivets when more strength is needed.  The "bottom" of the rivet looks like the top of a screw and the shaft on the bottom threads into the cap piece.  The threads provide more grip than a rivet, and, a touch of Loctite™ will seal it permanently.  Screw posts can also be used when attaching two pieces of leather together that you want to be able to swivel at that connection. Also known as Chicago screws, binder posts, and key posts.
Line 24 snap Snaps These snaps are set into the leather in a manner very similar to the rapid rivets.  We use "Line 24" snaps, which is a designation of the diameter of the snap and/or the height of the snapping pieces.
Spring snap
Spring snaps These things are also called snaps.  The little button on the side is spring-loaded, and, is pulled down to open the "C" shaped hook on the end.  Typically a leather strap will pass through the closed loop on the other end.  Also, these snaps can be made with the spring-loaded "C" hook on both ends. Also known as swivel snaps.
Trigger snap Trigger snaps Unlike the spring snaps, these can be opened while there is pressure or pull on the length of the snap.  When a lot of weight is going to be supported, these are preferable to use instead of the spring snaps in case they need to be opened quickly.  Some people call these snaps "panic snaps", but, technically that is not accurate. Also known as scissor snaps.
Eyelet Eyelet An eyelet is used to reinforce a hole. Usually that hole has a cord running through it or is used with a buckle. Once in place, the straight end of the eyelet is flared to hold it in place.
Grommet Grommet Grommets are similar to eyelets, but, have an extra washer on the back side. This washer provides more strength and also gives a finished appearance on both sides.
Alphabet concho

Conchos are a decorative element and typically are attached to leather via screws from the back.
Halter square

The halter square is a horse tack item. While functional, it probably won't stand up to heavy stress. So, we use it for a combination of function and decoration.
Fishhook earring Fishhook earring This style of earring is called "fishhook", and, we only use hypoallergenic surgical stainless steel.
Split keyring Split keyring This split keyring is nickel plated and measures 1 1/4 inches in diameter.
Square eye swivel Square eye swivel This piece of hardware allows two straps to be connected, and, provides a 360 degree swivel.
