These restraints hang over the top of a closed
door. They are 2" wide and measure about
12 inches long.
One end of the restraint wraps around a 3/4 inch
thick wooden dowel. The other end could be made
with a spring snap, trigger snap, or, a 1 inch
"D" ring for use with rope.
These restraints are meant to be used on "solid"
doors up to 2½ inches thick, and, not the
hollow-core doors typically found in the interior
of a house or apartment.
We found two problems with this design when we
tested them. First, the two thicknesses of leather
are too thick for the typical gap at the top of
a door. Secondly, a doorway typically has "lip"
or "reveal" as a way to stop the door
(preventing it from being a swinging door). This
made it difficult to adequately position these
restraints.
