This was one of our very first leather projects,
and, a consignment piece for "Ms Mic".
In this set of items, we also made a pair of locking
ankle cuffs and a pair of locking wrist cuffs.
The main thing we learned from this project is
the relationship between the thickness of the
leather and the length of the rivet shaft. If
the shaft is too long, it will bend to the side
when the cap is pounded onto it. In this case,
that caused the caps to not line up as straight
as we wanted in producing the lettering. The shortest
rivets available were too long for one thickness
of leather. We resolved this problem by adding
another strap of leather, making the collar twice
as thick.
Adding the second strap created another problem
in that when wrapped around the neck, the holes
punched for the letters line up slightly different
than when the two straps are laid flat.
We are looking into a new "setter"
for "spots" to do lettering.
